Introduction of Standardized Tests In order to obtain admission to colleges and universities in North America, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and other countries, students are generally required to take certain standardized tests to demonstrate their ability to cope with program and course requirements and to prove their eligibility to meet certain prerequisites to the prescribed programs and courses. Information and preparation materials for most of the standardized tests are available at EARC. - TOEFL: The purpose of the Test of English as a Foreign Language is to evaluate the English proficiency of non-native speakers of English who wish to study in colleges and universities where English is the language of instruction.
If you are planning to study abroad, the TOEFL test is the one test that can take you anywhere. In fact, more institutions accept TOEFL test scores than any other test scores in the world — more than 6,000 colleges, universities and licensing agencies in 136 countries, to be exact. See University Directory (PDF). And, with more than 4,300 test centers worldwide, taking the test is convenient and easy. Register now for the test. Demonstrate your English-language skills. The TOEFL iBT measures how well you read, listen, speak and write in English and use these skills together in the university classroom. For example, you might read a passage or listen to a lecture, and then write or speak about what you learned. - For more information about registration and test taking, please visit the TOEFL website at http://www.toefl.org.
